Issue 41/42 : July - December, 2008 : Volume 11 No 1/2 Madeline Artenberg The Gardener I knew my Grandma, her plump, spotted fingers, cajoling dough flat, sprinkling a cow's worth of farmer cheese into each blintze. I knew her naked on weekend mornings. I would tie and re-tie corset strings until the breasts no longer hung like worries as I bound them to her. I knew my Grandma, but not her eyes: sunken, tending to a garden behind them. I knew her, but not the colors of the flowers, or the land the garden grew in. |
